ATTENTION: LANDOWNERS AFFECTED BY THE SSEN 400kV TKUP OVERHEAD LINE ROUTE

ATTENTION: LANDOWNERS AFFECTED BY THE SSEN 400kV TKUP OVERHEAD LINE ROUTE

If your land lies on or near the proposed SSEN 400kV TKUP route, you need to be aware of serious legal and safety risks that could impact your operations, liabilities, and future land use.

KEY CONCERNS:
• Many spans of the proposed overhead line are too low for modern agricultural machinery (sprayers, combines, harvesters).
• SSEN claims normal agricultural activity can continue — but this is disputed by safety experts and based on clearance data believed to be unsafe.
• Legal and insurance liabilities for accidents under low-sag lines may fall on YOU as the landowner or tenant.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO:
• Do NOT sign any agreements or easements from SSEN or their contractors without independent legal advice.
• Contact your land agent or solicitor immediately, especially if you’ve been approached by SSEN.
• Verify all documents referencing “safety” or “clearance” — make sure they include machinery height allowances relevant to your specific farm operations.

REMEMBER:
• Under UK law (CDM 2015), infrastructure must be designed to minimise danger at source.
• You should not have to adapt your farming to accommodate poorly designed infrastructure.
• You are entitled to full information and time to consider your position — don’t be pressured into accepting SSEN’s terms without proper guidance.
